The motorized stage provides high resolution and repeatable movement of microscope slides. It could be used in automated microscope systems.

Key Features and Benefits

• Integrated controller obviates the need for a separate controller unit; it connects directly to the computer serial or USB port via a cable with built-in converter. This innovative design provides cost saving, requires less desk space, reduces cable clutter, and eliminates motor cables carrying high frequency current.

• Stage can be daisy-chained with other devices with integrated controllers: filter wheels and focus drive; see system diagram and assembly.

• Smaller weight and more balanced weight distribution than in comparable stages. Most of the weight is close to microscope column.

• Open frame design provides convenient access to the slide. Slides can be changed without lowering the stage.

• Based on off-the-shelf highly accurate integrated linear actuators.

• Specimen holder can be custom-designed for different non-standard applications, e.g., microfluidic chips.

• Stage can be ordered with different lead screws to accommodate different speed-resolution trade-offs.

• Specimen holder can be aligned in X-Y, X-Z, and Y-Z planes to keep the slide registered and in focus. Alignment is done at the factory and can be repeated by the user.

• Accurate optical limit switches provide reproducible homing.

• Has two digital outputs per axis
