Mounting of Focus Drive on Zeiss AxioScope.A1 Microscope

Step 1. 
You will receive the focus drive and four replacement screws M3x10mm. Required tools: Phillips and flat screwdrivers, hex wrenches metric 1.5 and inch 5/64.

Step 2.  Put the back side of the microscope on a flat surface. Unscrew the four screws from the base plate of the microscope as shown.

Step 3.  Unscrew the base plate from the focus drive and keep the two screws for later.

Step 4.  Attach the base plate of the focus drive to the base plate of the microscope inserting the four replacement screws into the holes cleared in step 2. Unscrew the set screw holding the fine focus knob and pull out the knob.

Step 5.  Unscrew the set screw in the middle of the focus drive and pull the drive assembly out of the sleeve. Insert the microscope shaft into the open bore of the flexible coupling and push the coupling until the shaft is positioned securely in the clamp of the coupling. Tighten the screw in the clamp as shown. (While pushing the coupling over the shaft, hold the other fine focus knob to prevent the shaft from sliding out).

Step 6.  Push the sleeve of the focus drive towards the microscope until the holes align as shown. Use the two screws from step 3 to attach the drive to its base plate.

Step 7. 
Screw in the set screw in the middle of the focus drive to fix the drive assembly in the sleeve. Turn the microscope to its normal position. This completes the installation.

Note: You may find it convenient during installation to open the back lid of the focus drive by loosening its set screw. This allows to push out the drive assembly in step 5 instead of pulling it. If you choose to do so, touch only the plastic connectors and take care not to pull out the red power connector. If the lid was opened, close it in step 6.
